Important step towards emission free trucks in urban zones
Bucher Municipal and Volvo Trucks enters collaboration with the launch of heavy-duty zero-emission sewer cleaning vehicles to the global market.
Bucher Municipal introduces the CityFlex C40e - driven by powerful battery trucks from Volvo – setting a milestone for electrification of heavy-duty vehicles and making operations in urban zones quiet and free from exhaust emission. The World premiere and the official launch of the new CityFlex C40e will be at IFAT 2022 in Munich.
“In 2023 we intend to produce and deliver up to 80 electrical sewer cleaning vehicles based on Volvo Battery electric trucks”, says Per Lovring, Managing Director of Bucher Municipal Denmark, “I see this is as a game changer for the industry”.
Bucher Municipal has optimized the technology from the successful Bucher CityFlex C40 to meet the special requirements for working in urban zones, where regulations of CO2 and diesel emissions have been tightened. "I am very proud of the Volvo Trucks collaboration and the new standard for zero-emission vehicles, we are now introducing to global markets”, Per Lovring continues.
Strategic collaboration with Volvo Trucks
"Electrification of our utility vehicles is a challenge, but Volvo have proven that they can provide highly reliable and well-documented battery solutions for buses, trucks and other heavy-duty vehicles", explains Per Lovring when asked about the collaboration with Volvo Trucks, "and since our vehicles are in global demand, it is important that the technology is tested and that full service can be provided to all parts of the vehicle. That's why the collaboration with Volvo Trucks is a win-win".
Roger Alm, President Volvo Trucks, also highlights the importance of the collaboration: "Bucher Municipal is a major player in the global market of municipal vehicles and we share the values in the ambition to transform our industry. With the agreement, we are taking a strategically important step towards electrifying one of the most complicated and demanding tasks in our urban environments. Together we will be addressing the challenge of electrifying all types of applications in the industry”.
"We are at the forefront of the transition and have a leading position in the European electric truck market. We have already launched a complete range of electric trucks and deliver to customers across Europe and North America. Our goal is for 50 percent of our total truck sales to be electric by 2030", explains Roger Alm.
Leading the way
Bucher Municipal is leading the way in electrification of municipal vehicles like road sweepers, winter maintenance equipment, refuse vehicles – and now also sewer cleaners. And this is just the beginning.
“By 2025, we plan to have zero-emission production of our full line-up of heavy-duty sewer cleaners”, explains Per Lovring, “It is the strategic ambition of Bucher Municipal to always be a leader in the industry – and now the key task is to reduce the environmental impact of our vehicles, while delivering competitive solutions”
"We expect that the collaboration with Volvo Trucks will be a great benefit for our customers, because we combine our strengths to deliver a vehicle, with an improved environmental impact”.
