Bucher CityCat 2020ev autonomous sweeper approved for public road use

In Singapore, Bucher Municipal's world first all-electric heavy-duty compact sweeper Bucher CityCat 2020ev is now also autonomous. In collaboration with Enway, the Berlin software manufacturer of self-driving utility vehicles, a major milestone has been reached with the approval of the autonomous compact sweeper for public road use in Singapore. For Singapore, this is a step towards a more sustainable city.

Since 2017, Bucher Municipal and Enway have been working in cooperation to actively promote and further develop sustainability in the municipal sector. Awarded the name “Donner”, the autonomous sweeper is based on the all-electric Bucher CityCat 2020ev, equipped with Enway technology for autonomous operation and adapted for Singapore’s public roads with local partners.

Now the first milestone is reached: The fully autonomous compact sweeper passed the Land Transport Authority’s test for autonomous vehicles and is now officially approved for the use on public roads in Singapore. The National Environment Agency (NEA) in Singapore now begins trial operations on public roads and continues their journey to utilise intelligent cleaning solutions in making the city-state cleaner and more sustainable. The NEA trials on public roads are carried out in a progressive manner to gradually reach a regular operational status where the autonomous sweeper is cleaning parallel to everyday traffic.

The autonomous Bucher CityCat 2020ev compact sweeper paves the way for autonomous street cleaning in cities. With the all new Bucher CityCat V20e & CityCat VS20e Bucher Municipal is the only manufacturer with second generation electric sweepers in serial production, and with further optimised hard- and software architecture supporting autonomous driving and sweeping operations. Through these innovations Bucher Municipal with Enway technology can help cities to further improve productivity in cleaning operations and optimize road use.

By connecting the autonomous vehicles through Bucher Connect digital service platform, operations centres get real time data about operating status and safety through to predictive support and maintenance. This enables operators to plan routes, optimise performance and utilise vehicles for a safer, cleaner and more sustainable city centres.
