Apprenticeships
Bucher operates an award-winning Apprenticeship Scheme at its manufacturing facility in Dorking, encouraging individuals to take up careers in engineering as an alternative to university. The scheme aims to grow a successful candidate’s enthusiasm for building machines and highlight engineering as an exciting and dynamic profession.
Each year we take on a new group of Apprentices, training and supporting them in all aspects of engineering through to their Advanced Apprenticeship qualifications in Welding and Fabrication, Mechanical Engineering or Purchasing and Logistics.
At any one time we have around 20 Apprentices at various stages of their three or four year training, our intake being around six per year.
At Bucher Municipal’s Truck Mounted Competence Centre, we mentor, support and monitor our Apprentices through their training, liaising with the colleges and administering the scheme. Managers also identify further career development potential among our class of Apprentices and many go on to team leader, supervisory and management roles within the company.
Each year we hold an event to celebrate our latest class of Apprentices completing their training. External qualification certificates are presented by our Managing Director and the senior management team to congratulate our apprentices on their achievements.
In addition, we also have an undergraduate scheme within our Engineering Department, offering paid placements as part of their degree. Many have returned to join Bucher full-time after graduating.
Our Apprenticeship scheme’s entry criteria is GCSE (or equivalent) Grade 4 in English and Maths together with individuals showing a keen willingness to learn.
